General Tips for Writing
Step # 1
Not all writers work the same, but we have found certain activities
to work for us. You can take these tips and use them, or develop your own to share with others on the troubleshooting
bulletin board.
| - Keep a journal. Write in it often. Push yourself to write new
things. Record experiences, observations, paste in photos, articles, ticket stubs. Reflect on your life. Try some
exercises. |
- Look around. Take a walk in your house, or around your building.
Go to the park and just sit, write and observe. Bring a friend with you, write together in the scenery of your
choice and then share what you've come up with. |
| - Close your eyes and listen. There are so many sounds, but we
are often closed minded to the variety of things to listen to, in and around where we live. Find a place where
you can listen to the sounds around you and then just write what you hear, and what it makes you think of. |
- Experiment. Try new things or keep a theme. It is up to you
whether or not you want to make what you've written into a final piece. Write about what interests you or what
makes you annoyed. Try a notebook devoted solely to one topic: art, sports, politics, or try a notebook with more
random entries. |
| -Read the work of other writers. Though it is not a good idea
to copy authors word for word, sometimes, you might like the style that an author uses, or the way they format
their writing. Other writers can also serve as good inspiration for you! |
-Enjoy! Writers usually write because they like to, not because
they have to. Even if you don't publish your work, you should still benefit from the experience : ) |
