Photo Stories and Photo Journalism Photo journalism is a method of reporting that deals mostly with photos and captions to convey a story, event or other topic. Try writing a photo story or telling a news story using photos by reading these instructions to submit one. Nature in the City By Sara and
Elizabeth Nature is hard to find when you live in such a industrial place. We decided to go look for some nature growing near our houses in New York City.
Some people find ways of displaying flowers in their homes.
While there are flowers kept in homes, others who have space for a yard, keep flowers outside and some plants even grow on their own, like this ivy.
Some plants are potted such as this one. Though it is winter and the plant has shriveled, come spring, it will be beautiful potted mums.
Those with larger backyards can house entire trees which provide aesthetic pleasure and shade.
Some trees seasonally bud pretty pink flowers. These will fade within a week. It's good luck that we caught them when we did! We hope you learned a little about plants and nature in the city.
People Faces: By Sara
This is my sister, Jillian conveying her favorite emotion. People convey emotions through their faces all of the time, some more direct than others. Most everyone smiles in photos, even when they feel unhappy. Smiling in photos is almost a natural reflex, drilled into ones mind ever since they heard the phrase "say cheese". To take a natural photo, one might have to over come that plastic smile to see what one really feels.
From the "say cheese" kinda Jackie
to the "what's really going on in here" kinda Jackie.

Here's a "cute" face on me
A facial expression in a movie is much different than one that we would do normally. Here's an example of a mischievous face that would be in a movie. In real life, a person about to do something mischievous would probably not make a face this dramatic. Movies usually exaggerate facial expressions to convey a character.
A special thanks to all of the characters and models who so graciously lent their faces to me for this photo documentary about something as ordinary yet complex as the object you see in the mirror every day. Bye! | Back to top | |
